Tonight I return to Dream Away Lodge in Becket. I love it there. Hidden away in the woods in Western Massachusetts it was a former haunt of Bob Dylan, Rick Dank and Joan Baez. It’s a great room to sing in and the proprietor Daniel is fantastic host.
Dream Away Lodge was almost certainly in my subconscious when I wrote the title track for the forthcoming album ‘Dream Your Way Out of This One’. The song was initially written for a Big City Folk Song Club song challenge. The word was ‘November’. I’d played Dream Away Lodge a few weeks earlier. Despite the blue skies winter was fast approaching. A somewhat divisive election was also on the immediate horizon.
And the rest is bizarro history.
