Yesterday at the Korean Grocery Store

Brooklyn, December 20th, 2017

Yesterday at the Korean store, J and H Farm:

A busy well-lit fruit and vegetable shop on Prospect Park West, Brookyn.

Outside. December. Wintry but not that wintry. People moving swiftly, their heads down.

Inside it is quiet.

This Irish guy crouching picking out some onions and potatoes for a winter soup.

Enter White Brooklyn man in his fifties: “Hey, you got fish stock?”

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “What? Oh, seafood stock?” Yeah, I think we got.”

Korean woman at Korean grocery store finds a carton of seafood stock and throws it to White Brooklyn Man in his Fifties missing my head by millimeters.

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “Ohhhhhhh…sorry.”

This Irish Guy: “Don’t worry about it.”

Exit Seafood Stock White Brooklyn Man in his Fifties.

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “You ever see that guy’s turtle?”

This Irish Guy at Korean Grocery Store: “No”

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “Sorry I nearly hit you in the head with seafood stock.”

This Irish Guy at Korean Grocery Store: “That’s okay.  “He has a turtle?”

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “Yes. 60 years old. Biiiiiiig Turtle. He get it from an old man years ago.”

This Irish Guy at Korean Grocery Store: “Have you seen it?”

Korean Lady at Korean Grocery Store: “Sure! He bring it on the street on a little turtle trolley.”

This Irish Guy at Korean Grocery Store: “He brings the turtle for a walk? On a trolley? Down the street?”

This Irish Guy at Korean Grocery Store: “Yeah, you gotta see it eat a head of lettuce.”

I absolutely do have to see a 60 year old turtle eat a head of lettuce on a trolley on Prospect Park West. I’ll keep you posted.

I want to see video if possible. Or just call me so I can run uphill and see it myself.
